Mold And Mildew

Mold and mildew are somewhat similar, but they are still different. A lot of people are a little bit confused though when it comes to what this difference really is.

Mold is a fungus that develops especially in moist places. It can grow on surfaces such as walls, leather, clothing, food. Wherever you can find moisture, you can probably find mold, as well. The color is usually in shades of blue, green, red and black. There are thousands of mold types. Some are neutral or even beneficial, but some are toxic, can cause health problems and should be removed asap.

Mildew is also a fungus, that is also to be found on moist surfaces. However, the type of places to look for it are bathtubs, showers, windowsills. The color is also different vs. mold, i.e. white or gray. Its form is fuzzy or powdery and mildew is not toxic. However, it can cause problems in allergic people.

If you want to eliminate the root cause for both mold and mildew, you need to focus on moisture. Install an exhaust fan, open the windows often and /or install a dehumidifier in kitchen and bathroom.
